Doctor Martinus Luther is a German period film from 1911 . The film is the oldest known film about the life and work of Martin Luther .

The film is about Martin Luther's life and his marriage to Katharina von Bora . In addition, his "happy family life" was shown. Hermann Litt , who was already over fifty years old at the time, played the main and title roles . The film consists of 18 scenes and is approximately 20 minutes long.

The film was produced by Deutsche Bioscop GmbH , Berlin . The film premiered on September 2, 1911 in Berlin. The film was previously thought to be lost . The same was true of the script. Only a few photos, in which Hermann Litt is dressed as Luther, are said to have survived.

The Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation now lists the film in its holdings, but only wants to assert the rights to the film.
