Hermann Ney

Hermann Josef Ney (born January 21, 1952 in Saarlouis ) is a German computer scientist . Since 1993 he has been teaching and researching as holder of the chair for speech processing and pattern recognition at RWTH Aachen University .

Live and act

After obtaining a diploma in physics at the University of Göttingen in 1977 , he worked in the research department of Philips Germany . In the meantime he did his doctorate in 1982 at the University of Braunschweig as Dr.-Ing. of electrical engineering. From 1988 to 1989 he worked for AT&T .

For his research he received the ERC Advanced Grant in 2016 , the Google Focused Award in 2018 and the IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Award in 2019. He has been a Fellow of the International Speech Communication Association since 2009 and of the IEEE since 2011 .
