Hermann Weber ( October 17, 1903 in Cologne - July 11, 1993 ) was a German manufacturer and founder of the company WECO Pyrotechnische Fabrik , the market leader in the field of fireworks in Germany.

Life

From 1918 to 1921 Weber completed a commercial apprenticeship in Cologne, which he completed with very good results. In 1925 he became a sales representative for a pyrotechnic company from Meiningen , where he was very successful and was promoted to sales manager. After the seizure of power , he had to flee Cologne due to his Jewish descent. In 1942 he was arrested by the Gestapo and conscripted. From August 1944 he had to do forced labor in a quarry near Sitzendorf . His future wife, Alwine Götzenich, prevented his deportation in April 1945 and enabled him to escape. After the war he moved to Eitorf and married Alwine Götzenich. At first he went into business for himself with a grocery wholesaler, but then decided to return to the fireworks display. In September 1948 he founded the WECO pyrotechnical factory in Eitorf under the name PYRO-Chemie Hermann Weber & Co. , which was the first German manufacturer of pyrotechnic products for fireworks after the Second World War . In 1950 he set up a fund for socially disadvantaged employees at his plant and a pension fund. In 1983 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his services to the economy and his social commitment , in the same year he gave up his position on the management board, but remained active as a consultant. In 1993, shortly before his death, he founded the Hermann Weber Foundation with six million marks from his fortune, which, among other things, is supposed to help needy young people and elderly people from the region. From 1996 the foundation participated in the conversion of the Eitorf indoor pool into a leisure pool, which was renamed Hermann Weber Bad in honor of Hermann Weber .
