The twin house Hermannsweg 1/2 in Schmitten dates from 1670 and is a listed building .

It is an eaves-standing, two-storey double dwelling with a slight overhang and a gable roof.

The half-timbering of house no. 1 was clad with the exception of the lintel bolt of the original front door. As part of the renovations in 2018, the framework was exposed. To the right of the door is the inscription “OMNIA CUM DEO ET NIHIL SINEO. IOHANNES ROSE ANNO 1670. 30 MAY ”. This refers to the client, Jean Rosoy, mentioned around 1675, a Lorraine native who immigrated to the region at the invitation of the Reifenberg ruler.

House no. 2 was probably one third of the original component of house no. 1. This was later extended to the right, divided and provided with two new house entrances. The framework is exposed. A former associated barn was demolished. The building is a listed building as an important testimony to the reconstruction after the Thirty Years War .

In 2018, house No. 1 was extensively renovated and converted into a café. This was opened in December 2018 and bears the name "Herr Rose", which refers to the Germanized form of the name of the builder, Johannes Rose.
