The petroglyphs

The hill includes a number of petroglyphs of the Bronze Age . These included adorants , wheel crosses , frame figures, ships and weapons. The rock carvings became nationally known in 1988 when the E4 road was laid around most of the relic fields. Some smaller rock outcrops could not be saved. They were cut out of the mountain and can be viewed in the Norrköpings Stadsmuseum.

The trading center

In 1990 a residential area was excavated, which at least from the Vendel to the Viking Age traded with the port of Motala and which seems to have been an important trading and craft center in Östergötland. The probably contemporary Stormannagården Castle is a few kilometers away. The area examined was 180 × 20–100 meters in size and contained about 80 arrangements consisting of pits, stoves and post holes. The 0.2–0.3 m thick culture layer yielded ashes, boat rivets, iron knives, glass beads and mosaics, ceramics, footwear, grindstones, baked clay and more. Ornamental pearls were made from glass on site, while the glass mosaics were imported from the continent. Forges and slag have also been detected in the archaeological material. The culture layer also extended to an area of approximately 100 × 20–30 m south of the study area. Barely 200 meters to the east, a Viking Age or younger dwelling was found that was not examined.
