Mute servant

The valet or mute servant (also called silent servant , mute butler , dressboy or suit stand ) is a piece of furniture on which especially men's clothing can be placed or hung. It is mainly used to store clothes overnight that you want to put on again the next day, e.g. B. jacket , pants and tie .

Mute servants have already been proven in antiquity . This furniture mostly functioned as tray (Trapezophoroi) or lamp holder (Lychnouchoi, Lampadephoroi) . The Xantener Knabe , a Roman bronze figure from the later 1st century BC found near Xanten . Chr., Is considered to be one of the best-known examples of the type of tray carrier who might have served guests food and drinks at the time.
