Herta Winkler

Herta Winkler (born May 17, 1917 in Bad Gams ; † September 11, 2003 in Graz ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and women's state secretary in the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions (ÖGB). From 1962 to 1973 she was a member of the National Council .

Life and accomplishments

After elementary and secondary school, Winkler attended office courses between 1932 and 1934 and from 1945 to 1946 and was initially employed as a doctor's secretary, and between 1932 and 1935 as a community secretary. From 1947 to 1952, she worked as an accountant for the Styrian municipal employees' union, and between 1952 and 1975 she was employed as a women's state secretary in the ÖGB.

Between 1954 and 1964, Winkler was active as a member of the Chamber of Labor and Employees in Styria and from 1958 to 1964 she was a councilor in Graz. In addition, she represented the SPÖ from December 14, 1962 to November 8, 1973 in the National Council and was active within the party as a deputy chairwoman in the SPÖ women's central committee. Alongside Hertha Firnberg and Rosa Jochmann, Winkler was one of the leading social democrats in the National Council.
