Hertel & Reuss

Hertel & Reuss was a manufacturer of optical instruments based in Kassel , which merged with the Gerhardt company in 1995 following bankruptcy . H&R was founded in 1927 by Otto Hertel and Eduard Reuss. It had around 400 employees in the 1970s and exported worldwide.

Hertel and Reuss produced high quality binoculars, microscopes, riflescopes, telescopes and opera glasses. Among other things, H & R manufactured microscopes for providers of teaching aids such as Franckh'sche Verlagshandlung or Phywe , for example the Humboldt microscope for the former .

Today opera glasses made in Germany are offered under the brand names Hertel and Reuss in Verbund Nickel AG - Hertel & Reuss of the optics company Gerhardt. Distribution is carried out by Nickel AG, based in Naumburg near Kassel in the north of Hesse . Before the takeover by Gerhardt, the telescopic sight and binocular manufacturer Nickel AG was based in Marburg an der Lahn. A call center for the TV shopping channel QVC was located in the old Hertel & Reuss company building in Kassel .
