Hertz 87.9 is the university radio for Bielefeld . Since December 6, 2000, Hertz 87.9 has been broadcasting terrestrially on the frequency 87.9 MHz in the city of Bielefeld as well as via live stream and app. The broadcaster's main focus is on student topics related to Bielefeld, as well as scientific and local news.
Transmission area
The actual radio station is not located in the university building, but on the telecommunications building on Kesselbrink , the tallest building in downtown Bielefeld. The transmission area covers the entire city area of Bielefeld except for the area west of the Teutoburg Forest . Hertz 87.9 can also be received further to the east, for example in Bad Salzuflen or partly in Minden .
program
Hertz 87.9 broadcasts moderated programs from Monday to Friday. The program Der Morgen runs daily from 9 a.m. The focus of the magazine is on news from Bielefeld University (interviews with lecturers, event tips, cafeteria plan) as well as more general local topics from culture, politics and sport. A monothematic magazine is broadcast every evening from 6 p.m. Among other things, there are programs on games, cinema, art and culture, new music, university politics, sport and science. There is also a monthly record review program, a political talk and a satirical program, which is also performed as a stage program at irregular intervals.
music
The music from Hertz 87.9 is selected by the in-house music department. The emphasis is on music by bands that are not played on commercial radio stations or have a local or regional background. As many different genres as possible are shown, which are played during the day or at night, depending on the degree of hardness. One hour of target group music is played every evening from 10 p.m. For example there is a dark wave and a German punks program. In the program Open Turntables , DJs play live sets every Friday from 8 p.m., which are broadcast from the studio. Hertz 87.9 regularly reports on concerts that take place in and around Bielefeld and conducts interviews with bands that are broadcast in the program ImGespräch every Thursday evening from 8 p.m.

The Hertz 87.9 program is primarily, but not exclusively, aimed at Bielefeld students.
editorial staff
The editorial team of Hertz 87.9 consists of students from the University and Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. The majority of the team works on a voluntary basis for the station, some members of the editorial team are employed as so-called student assistants at Bielefeld University.
Hertz 87.9 is a training radio. Accordingly, seminars for newcomers are regularly offered, in which the basics of radio journalism are taught. Students or schoolchildren can also complete an internship at Hertz 87.9 that is recognized by university faculties and vocational schools.
