Herwig Schirmer

Herwig Schirmer (* 1938 in Tübingen ) is a German lawyer and public health officer. Among other things, he was State Secretary in Brandenburg from 1996 to 2000 .

Life

Schirmer studied law in Marburg and went to the Federal Insurance Office in Berlin as a lawyer in 1966. Four years later he became Senate Director for Labor in Berlin , and later he became Senate Director for Social Affairs. After a change of government, Senator Ulf Fink at the time came to a conflict with SPD member Schirmer, so that Herwig Schirmer moved to the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen as Senate Director for Social Affairs . In 1989 he moved back to Berlin as chairman of the board of the AOK . Here, after the fall of the Wall in 1990, he organized the takeover of the GDR monopoly fund for social insurance in the Berlin AOK and had the former employees of the GDR social insurance retrained. In September 1996, Schirmer joined the State of Brandenburg's Ministry of Health and Social Affairs in Potsdam as State Secretary . The minister at the time was Regine Hildebrandt . In November 2000, Schirmer resigned from his position as State Secretary in Brandenburg because he assumed political responsibility for the flight of the violent criminal Frank Schmökel from the penal system . Schirmer was put into temporary retirement .

Shortly beforehand he was still in discussion for the office of State Secretary in the Berlin Health Senate. He did not take up this post as a result of the Schmökel scandal. After his temporary retirement , he was later a member of the supervisory board of various hospital operators.

Schirmer is married, has three children and lives in Berlin
