The Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Lienz is a branch church of the Lienz parish St. Andrä. The church was built according to plans by Albert Bermoser and consecrated to the Sacred Heart in 1950 . It is connected to the Agricultural State College in the Peggetz district, Josef-Müller-Straße, and is located in the middle of the school and administration buildings.

history

The plans for the Herz-Jesu-Kirche go back to the year 1936/37, when the school building of the agricultural state college was built. The construction of a chapel was already planned at this time, but this could only be realized after the Second World War. After the decision to build the church had been made in October 1945, it was approved by the Apostolic Administration on June 6, 1946. After plans by the architects Peter Hassbacher and Solheid had been rejected, the architect Albert Bermoser from Innsbruck was entrusted with the planning of the church. However, it was only Bermoser's third proposal that was implemented. After the foundation stone was laid on June 16, 1946, the construction period took several years due to lack of funds. The church could not be consecrated until November 12, 1950 by the Innsbruck bishop Paulus Rusch .

In 2000 the church was renovated, and the choir room was redesigned in the course of this work.

Building description

The Herz-Jesu-Kirche is a west-facing, four-bay long building with a gable roof, curved gable facade and a recessed rectangular choir. Externally, the facade and the church tower were given a baroque design, although the building was not erected until the 1940s. The church also has a vestry on the north side. Access to the church is made possible through a round arched portal with a granite reveal, the entrance area being protected by a shingle-covered pent roof. The church tower has arched sound openings, a retracted lantern and a curved tent roof. It is also crowned by a ball and cross, and the curved gable facade also has a richly decorated wrought-iron cross.

Inside, the church is characterized by a large hall with a wooden beam ceiling, a gallery and a separate choir. The high altar was designed as a brick cafeteria with a marble altar top. There is a wooden crucifix above it. The existing tabernacle was also made of wood. There is also a modern wooden folk altar with a wooden ambo in the church.
