Herzl Bodinger
Herzl Bodinger (* 1943 in Israel ) is a general ( Aluf ) out of service of the Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) and former Commander in Chief of the Israeli Air Force . Today Bodinger is a member of the International Board of Governors of the Ariel University Center in Samaria .
Military career
Bodinger joined the IDF in 1961; There he attended the flight academy and was trained as a fighter pilot, where he flew the Dassault Mystère and the SO-4050 Vautour . During the Six Day War , Bodinger served as a Vautour pilot and took part in Operation Moked , where he attacked airfields in Iraq and Egypt and destroyed ten Tupolev Tu-16 machines on the ground. During the Yom Kippur War he was a pilot of a Mirage III and shot down a Syrian MiG-17 . In post-war conflicts, he shot down a MiG-21 over Lebanon .
Bodinger commanded the Israeli Air Force from January 1992 to July 1996. During his 35-year career, he accumulated approximately 6,000 flight hours and directed 451 air missions.
Civil career
After leaving the IDF, Bodinger was appointed head of Rada Electronic Industries . In the 2000s he headed a committee that was convened by Transport Minister Shaul Mofas to draw up a master plan for Israel's airports.
