The Seymour Johnson Air Force Base (also Seymour Johnson AFB ) is a military airport of the United States Air Force near the city of Goldsboro in Wayne County in the state of North Carolina in the Southeastern United States . The base was founded in 1942 as a training center. Today parts of the Air Combat Command (ACC) and a unit of the Air Force Reserve Command under the command of the Air Mobility Command (AMC) are stationed there.
The airport was named after Seymour Johnson , a US Navy test pilot who died in a crash. He was never a member of the Air Force.
