Goldsboro is a city with 35,792 inhabitants in Wayne County in the state of North Carolina in the United States of America and is also the administrative seat of the county . The place was founded in 1787 and registered in 1847 and is located in the coastal plain of the state on the Neuse River . The city is best known for the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, which has been based in 1942, and the Cherry Hospital psychiatric clinic . In the immediate vicinity of the community is the Neuse State Park with the famous cliffs of the Neuse.

Waynesborough's population grew until 1830. Later, the city name in "Goldsborough's Junction" was named after Major Matthew T. Goldsborough. This name was later shortened to Goldsborough. On the night of January 23-24, 1961, a US Air Force B-52 bomber crashed near the city .
