David Nillo

David Nillo (born July 13, 1919 in Goldsboro , North Carolina , † September 28, 2005 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American dancer , choreographer and arranger , especially on New York's Broadway .

Life

Nillo studied in Chicago with Bently Stone , a ballet teacher and choreographer, and with the German Kurt Graff . His first engagements took him in 1939 to the Page Stone Ballet , which was led by Ruth Page and Bentley Stone, as well as to the Graff Ballet and the Federal Theater Dance Project . At the end of 1939 Nillo moved to New York and studied with Anton Dolin , Antony Tudor and Edward Caton and modern dance with Hanya Holm .

In 1940 he started his activities at the Ballet Theater , which later became popularly known as the American Ballet Theater and became a founding member of the same. After his active career as a dancer in various musicals, he worked as a choreographer and arranger of many productions and as a teacher.

Nillo died at the age of 89 in his Hollywood home.
