Sir Anton Dolin (born July 27, 1904 in Slinfold , † November 25, 1983 in Paris ), actually Sydney Francis Patrick Chippendall Healey-Kay , was an English ballet dancer and choreographer . He was the first Briton to receive the title of premier danseur .

Life

Dolin received his ballet training from Bronislava Nijinska , Serafina Astafjewa and Nicolas Legat . In 1921 he joined the Ballets Russes , whose soloist he became in 1923. In the 1930s he was a soloist with the Vic-Wells Ballet . From 1940 to 1946 he worked as a soloist and choreographer at the American Ballet Theater . During this time he reconstructed numerous classics of ballet history.

In 1950, Dolin and Alicia Markova founded the London Festival Ballet (now the English National Ballet ).

In 1981 Dolin was knighted as a Knight Bachelor .
