The Piedmont Triad International Airport ( IATA : GSO , ICAO : KGSO ) is a regional airport in the US state of North Carolina and serves the cities of Greensboro , High Point and Winston-Salem . It is located on the western city limits of Greensboro at an altitude of 86 m above sea level on Interstate 40 . It is operated by the Greensboro-High Point Airport Authority.

Runways
The Piedmont Triad International Airport has three runways . Two runways run parallel. The longest runway is marked 05R / 23L, is 3048 meters and 46 meters wide. The parallel runway 05L / 23R is 2743 meters long and 46 meters wide. The Querwindbahn 14/32 is 1945 meters wide and 46 meters long. All runways are covered with asphalt.
Passenger terminal
Piedmont Triad International Airport has a passenger terminal with two concourses and a total of 26 piers . It was originally published on October 9, 1982.
North Concourse
There are 14 gates in the North Concourse, eight of which are equipped with passenger boarding bridges . The gates are numbered 20 to 32 and 34. It is used by Delta Air Lines and United Airlines .
South Concourse
There are twelve boarding gates in the South Concourse, ten of which are equipped with passenger boarding bridges. The gates are numbered 40 to 51. It is used by Allegiant Air , American Airlines and Spirit Airlines .
Airport information
The airport is used for domestic air traffic , for example flights to Newark , Houston , New York City and Chicago are offered and connects the region called "Triad" via shuttle to international air traffic in Charlotte and Atlanta . Freight is mainly handled there by FedEx , DHL and UPS Airlines . The airport has one terminal and three runways. The aircraft manufacturer Honda Aircraft Company is based at the airport .

Incidents
- On 22 December 1996, a rushed Douglas DC-8-63F of Airborne Express (N827AX) onto a test flight. A stall was to be simulated along with a number of other maneuvers. The machine suffered an actual stall from which the crew could no longer intercept it. The DC-8 hit the ground near Narrows, Virginia . All six people on board the machine died (see also Airborne Express flight 827 ) .
