Duke Two ( Japanese ヘ ル ツ ォ ー ク ・ ツ ヴ ァ イ , Herutsōku Tsuvai ) is a real-time strategy game by Technosoft and was released in 1989 for the Sega Mega Drive . It is the successor to the Herzog gamefor the MSX .

This game is considered to be the oldest game that implements the elements of the real-time strategy genre known today in game form.

Game description

In the game, one or two players act against each other in real time on an overview map, whereby a missing second player can be played through the computer. Both parties have a home base, and a larger number of neutral bases are distributed on the maps (similar to the computer game Z ) that can be conquered. A selection of different types of troops (for example infantry, tanks, defense towers) can be built in the respective bases and assigned an order (attack, defend, conquer the base). After these units have been deployed, they act independently according to the orders given to them.

The game's cursor is special in that it interacts directly with the game. It is a jet that can attack enemy units, transport individual units of its own, and transform itself into a ground combat robot. It is possible to destroy it for a short time, but afterwards it reappears very quickly at the home base.
