Hessian economic archive

The Hessian Economic Archive ( HWA ), based in Darmstadt, is a public institution whose holdings and collections can be viewed for scientific research projects or other research, while observing the legally prescribed or requested by the owners protection periods. The Hessian Economic Archive was founded in 1992 as a regional economic archive by the Hessian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The archive is financed by the Hessisches Wirtschaftsarchiv e. V.

Tasks and inventory

Since it was founded, the Hessian Economic Archives have included the historical documents of more than 200 chambers, associations and companies in its holdings. These files are supplemented by a series of collections that are constantly being expanded.

The Hessian Economic Archive has a service library with more than 25,000 volumes with a focus on Hessian regional history , economic history and company chronicles, which can be viewed by visitors to the Hessian Economic Archive in the reading room. The library also includes extensive holdings of historical daily newspapers and periodicals from professional associations that, among other things, a. were taken over from the former libraries of the Hessian chambers of industry and commerce, which have since been dissolved. The archive also advises Hessian companies on setting up their own company archives.

Research and documentation

The HWA prepares traveling exhibitions on economic history issues at regular intervals. It publishes two series of publications: the publications on Hessian economic and corporate history (December 2012: 12 volumes) and the articles on Hessian economic history (December 2012: 7 volumes).
