The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

The Heterokontophyta , according to some scientists, a separate department within the kingdom of protists (Protista), they are the Underdark of Stramenopilen assigned (heterokont). It summarizes the divisions of brown algae (Phaeophyta) and golden algae (Chrysophyta) that are valid today according to prevailing opinion .

The Department of brown algae is then the class of brown algae (Phaeophyceae), while the Department of golden algae into four classes decays, namely the gold-green algae (Xanthophyceae) that gold brown algae (Chrysophyceae), the diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) and the Oomycophyceae .

The common feature of the Heterokontophyta is the heterocontal flagellation typical of the stramenopiles . They have a long draw scourge and a shorter drag scourge . The pulling flag is directed forward.

Heterokontophyta store carbohydrates in the form of chrysolaminarin in special vacuoles outside the chloroplast.
