The Hetty Rock is a cliff rock in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is the largest of a group of rocks in Walker Bay on Livingston Island off John Beach .
Scientists at the British Discovery Investigations mapped it and named it descriptively as Low Rock ( English for low rock ). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee decided to rename it in 1958. The new namesake is the sealer Hetty under Captain Ralph Bond from London , who operated in the waters around the South Shetland Islands between 1820 and 1821.
