The John Beach is a beach on the south coast of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is on the west side of the entrance to Walker Bay .
The British seal hunter Robert Fildes (1793-1827) mapped it during his voyage to the South Shetland Islands between 1820 and 1822 and gave it the name Black Point . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee rejected this designation because there was already an object with the same name on Livingston Island. The name given to the name that is valid today is the British Schnau John from London , who was used as a seal catcher and operated in the waters around the South Shetland Islands in two summer campaigns between 1820 and 1822.
