Hi Inergy
Hi Inergy was an American soul band consisting of Barbara Mitchell, Linda Howard, Michelle Rumph and Vernessa Mitchell.
Career
The group High Energy was founded in April 1976. They were discovered by Gwen Gordy-Lupper, the sister of Motown Records owner Berry Gordy , who gave them a contract for his Gordy label in 1977. The name was changed to High Inergy and the group was introduced as 'the new Supremes'. The combo quickly enjoyed success with their hit You Can't Turn Me Off (In The Middle Of Turning Me On) , a top 20 hit in the US in September 1977.
By 1983 they had another eight soul hits, but without a placement in the pop charts. Vernessa Mitchell left the group in 1979 and tried herself as a gospel singer.
High Inergy broke up in 1984 when lead singer Barbara Mitchell embarked on a solo career. She had a minor hit in a duet with Smokey Robinson in Blame It On Love (1983), but her 1984 debut, Get Me Through The Night , failed to establish itself in the market.
