The Hickebick (also: the Hickebick and Pfeiffersberg ) is a natural monument in the center of Darmstadt-Eberstadt .

geology

The Hickebick sand dune ( inland dune ) was formed at the end of the Vistula Ice Age in the cold tundra climate through sand drifts from Pleistocene drifting sand. The dune is the remnant of a drifting sand dune in the middle of Eberstadt.

It is popularly known as "Pfeiffersberg" after the long-established Pfeiffer family, whose farm is adjacent. The sports club TG 07 Eberstadt, founded in 1907, used the area as a sports facility with the permission of the Pfeiffer family.

flora

The dune Hickebick can be divided into different vegetation units:

  1. Pfriemengras - steppe lawn
  2. loose silvergrass dry grass
  3. Dry xerothermal awl grass lawn

Natural monument

Until 1993 the "Pfeiffersberg" was managed by the Pfeiffer family, mostly by growing asparagus.

The dune has been a natural monument since 1993 . The reason for protection is the preservation of the rare dune flora and the geological importance. There are numerous plant species on the area that are protected, worth protecting or endangered.
