Toshitaka Hidaka

Toshitaka Hidaka ( Japanese 日 高 敏隆 , Hidaka Toshitaka ; born February 26, 1930 , † November 14, 2009 ) was a Japanese ethologist and author.

Hidaka studied engineering at Tokyo University . His early interest in animals led to a lifelong career as a behavioral scientist. He was instrumental in founding the Japanese Ethological Society in 1982 and published such writings as Konchu to yū sekai (1973), Esoroji wa dō iu gakumon ka (1976), Dobutsu wa naze dobutsu ni nattaka (1976), Chō wa naze tobu ka ( Why do butterflies fly ?, Mainichi Culture Prize ), Dōbutsu wa nani o mezasu no ka (What do animals strive for?) And Nihon dōbutsu daihyakka (Encyclopedia of Animals in Japan, 1996).
