Hidenori Takagi (born March 20, 1961 in Tokyo ) is a Japanese physicist (solid state physics).

Takagi studied applied physics at the University of Tokyo , where he received his doctorate in 1989. He was a post-doctoral student at ATT Bell Laboratories. He then became Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo (1994) and Professor in 1999. From 2002 he was also a group leader at RIKEN . He has been Director at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart since 2013 , where he received a Humboldt Professorship . He is also a professor at Tokyo University. He is a scientific member of the Max Planck Society.

Takagi deals with metal-insulator junctions, high-temperature superconductivity, quantum magnetism in correlated transition metal oxides.

He received the IBM Science Prize in 1988, the Nissan Science Prize in 1994, the Kamerlingh Onnes Prize in 2006 (for work on high-temperature superconductors), the Honda Frontier Award in 2009 and the Eugen and Ilse Seibold Prize in 2020 . He is a fellow of the American Physical Society .
