Higashisumiyoshi-ku ( Japanese 東 住 吉 区 ) is one of 24 boroughs ( ku ) in Osaka , Japan .

geography

Higashisumiyoshi-ku is located in the south of Osaka between the districts of Sumiyoshi-ku and Abeno-ku in the west, Ikuno-ku in the north, Hirano-ku in the east and the city limits in the south.

history

The municipality was separated from Sumiyoshi-ku on April 1, 1943.

The Higashisumiyoshi District was one of the first to set up a local cooperative to support the elderly in view of the rapidly aging Japanese society.
