High Definition Audio Vision

High Definition Audio Vision ( HDAV , German "high-resolution Audiovision ") is a quality index for digital AV productions and AV shows that was created in 2003 by AV Stumpfl based on HDTV . HDAV makes no statement about the height and width of the image, but only a quality index about the amount of image information in the production. The quality index expresses the total pixels of an image in millions.

Q 0.8 is the minimum requirement for a show to be able to mark it as an HDAV show. A resolution of 1024 × 768 thus fulfills this criterion. A show in Q 1.5 is z. B. achieved with a resolution of 1400 × 1050.

The quality index only relates to the total pixels of the displayed image and has no relation to the resolution of the output device. This makes it possible to use several display devices (e.g. the parallel use of several digital projectors ) to achieve a higher Q value than can be shown with one display. For example, an HDAV show Q3.5 for an image with a resolution of 3440 × 1024 pixels can be implemented with three digital projectors with a resolution of 1280 × 1024 pixels. For this purpose, the images projected by the three projectors are displayed side by side on the screen , with an overlap of 200 pixels (1280 + 1280 - 200 + 1280 - 200 = 3440).

The so-called softedge technology is used to prevent overexposure to the overlap . The images in the overlap area are darkened with gray gradients towards the edge of the projected image. This creates a seamless transition.

This definition of HDAV also enables artistically high-quality productions, since the production does not have to be limited to “one screen”.
