Higham Gobion Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Higham Gobion Castle is an Outbound castle from the 11th century in the village of Higham Gobion that today the municipality Shillington in the English administrative unit Central Bedfordshire heard.

The castle was a wooden moth built by the Gobion family , after whom the castle and village were named, soon after the Norman conquest of England in 1066. The castle stood on marshland and covered a large, triangular area. A small mound was within the triangle and the area was protected by a solid curtain wall .

Pirton Castle was three miles away and Bedford Castle was 14 miles north .

Only earthworks remain from the system today . Roman remains such as coins, millstones and burial urns have been found nearby.
