Hewelsfield moth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hewelsfield moth is now a roughly circular mound that is once said to have been a medieval moth . It is located about 80 meters southwest of the church St. Mary Magdalene in the village Hewelsfield in the Forest of Dean in the English county of Gloucestershire . The moth was probably erected soon after the Norman conquest of England in 1066.

There is no evidence of any masonry at this point. However, one can find the remains of a ditch around the foot of the mound and other earth walls and ditches nearby indicate the earlier existence of a bailey .
