Hillerk Rocks Natural Monument

The Hillerk Rocks are a natural monument to the northeast of Olsberg - Wulmeringhausen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The Hillerk Rock were the 2004 landscape plan Olsberg than 3.10  ha large natural monument designated (ND). The Hillerk rocks are also a legally protected biotope under Section 62 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Landscape Act. It is surrounded by the Olsberg nature reserve . The ND consists of four sub-areas.

The rocks are up to 12 meters high and are among the largest in the Olsberg urban area. In the area where the Neger (Ruhr) joins the Ruhr , numerous prominent cliffs and ledges emerge on the Hillerk ridge and on the north-west exposed slope zone. On gaps in the spruce forest are ravine forest fragments and ravine forest relics with sycamore and elm , z. Partly dead, developed with specific rock vegetation with small ferns. On the slope there is a mining tunnel entrance closed with a steel grating.

For the ND, the requirement was stipulated to remove the spruce trees on the rocks and in an edge zone to be determined when the requirement was implemented and to convert them into a natural deciduous mixed forest.
