Heaven (Liezen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sky (probably a sky- hall name 'arched corridor, dome') near Liezen in Upper Styria (Ennstal) is part of the Hinteregger Alm at the foot of the limestone of Predigtstuhl and the Nazogl .

The sky has an altitude of 1200 to 1300 meters and was cleared in the Middle Ages for the purposes of livestock farming. There are around ten alpine huts on the fertile corridor , some of which are used for dairy farming and some have been converted into snack bars. Other areas of the Hinteregger Alm are purgatory and hell , which is a little deeper than the sky. In the Höll there is also the Schlagerbauerhütte refuge ( 1214  m above sea level ), where a network of popular hiking trails converges.

Over the western and northern edge of the Hinteregger Alm, several mountain meadows , which have also been cleared for a long time, rise to the rock faces of the Nazogl and the Predigtstuhl , z. B. in the north of the steep slope of the Geißfeld ( 1740  m above sea level. A. ) and the Kühfeld ( 1928  m above sea level. A. ), where the border with Upper Austria runs. Five kilometers to the east, the Pyhrnpass road  (B 138) winds up to the Pyhrnpass ( 954  m above sea level ), under whose limestone the railway tunnel and the new Pyhrn motorway  (A 9) connect the two federal states.

The district capital Liezen is about 5 km to the south, separated from the idyllic high valley by the Rote Wand and the Hirschriedl . On the slope to the latter, which is rich in game, the Ice Age created several raised bogs , the Hirschriedlmoos. It is separated from the alpine pasture by fences and is used exclusively as pasture for young cattle.
