Sky (field name)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The field name sky describes a high, open hallway .

etymology

Heaven , as can still be seen in the celestial vault and the canopy , originally means "each, especially a vaulted or hollow ceiling", synonymous with Latin caelum, coelum . In the Mondsee glosses (2nd half of the 10th century), for example, the verb himmeln means 'to arch'.

The word is often used in place names for a "fertile, also woodless corridor, [...] distinctive landforms, for mountains, roads and villages or districts that are located on elevations." A heaven place name can probably be dated to that High Middle Ages , maybe earlier.

It is also found as the kingdom of heaven , based on the Christian ' kingdom of heaven '. A reinterpretation in the mythological sense is just as secondary with the toponymics as with the more frequent hell 'narrow, wild corridor'. The place Himmelreich near Salzburg, for example, presumably has a different etymology ; this is probably a new Anabaptist-Hutterite creation from the 18th century as a house name for the ' Kingdom of God '.
