Life

Treeck was from 1970 to 1999 the cultural department of the city of Bergkamen . In this function he developed models for a citizen-friendly cultural policy in the mid-city area. This included the establishment of the 1st municipal art gallery of the Federal Republic of Germany (Städtische Galerie sole 1), the conception and organization of cross-city art festivals, such as the 1st to 7th “Bergkamener Bilder basar” from 1970 to 1985, and the testing of new forms of municipal literature funding ("Bergkamener Literaturförderpreis") as well as the initiation and financing of author sponsorships. He also developed and organized a German-Polish writer exchange between the Krakow Writers' Union and the city of Bergkamen. In 1981 he initiated a citizens' committee to support the restoration of Kraków's cultural monuments. The town partnership between Bergkamen and the Polish salt mining town of Wieliczka also emerged from this work .

He appears with his own literary-cabaret stage programs, mostly with his partner, the Hungarian actress, cabaret artist and chanson singer Kriszti Kiss. He also works as an author for the press and radio. He also writes articles on cultural policy and essays in handbooks, magazines and for radio .

In 1984 Dieter Treeck co-founded the Westphalian Literature Office e. V. in Unna and has been a member of the board since then. He has also been a member of the Association of German Writers (VS) since 1984 and of the Society for Contemporary Poetry (GZL) in Leipzig since 2010 .
