Himmelhartha is a district of the Saxon town of Lunzenau and was the smallest municipality in Saxony before it was incorporated on April 1, 1996. Himmelhartha has 51 inhabitants (2005) and an area of ​​1.16 km². It lies at an altitude of 250 to 275 m above sea level not far from the Zwickau Mulde , which is crossed at this point by the Neukieritzsch – Chemnitz railway line .

history

The place is mentioned for the first time in 1324 as Synnenhart ("Sonnenhart"), since 1580 the name Harta has been common, since 1696 the name form Himmelhartha is attested. From 1551 to 1746 Himmelhartha was an official village, then it came to the rule of Wechselburg, which belonged to the county of Schönburg . On April 1, 1996, Himmelhartha was incorporated into Lunzenau.
