Heavenly King

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heavenly King is the beginning of a basic prayer of the Orthodox Church . This prayer is an invocation of the Holy Spirit with which all prayers and almost all worship services in the Orthodox Church are introduced.

This prayer makes it clear what great importance the Holy Spirit has in the Eastern Church , which is partly related to the dogmatic dispute over the filioque . The Holy Spirit is seen very clearly as a person and less as a “power of God”, because according to the teaching of the church he is the third divine person. A comparable prayer does not exist in the Western Latin churches.

After the Heavenly King , the Trisagion is prayed three times and then the glory be to the Father . After a prayer to the Holy Trinity , a three-fold glory to the Father , the introductory prayers end with the Our Father .
