Hina Jilani (* 1953 in Lahore , Pakistan ) is a lawyer and human rights activist . Together with her sister Asma Jahangir , she founded Pakistan's first women's rights law firm, AGHS Legal Aid Cell (ALAC) in Lahore in 1980. She is also a co-founder of the Human Rights Commission in Pakistan.

Kofi Annan appointed her Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on the situation of human rights defenders . Their groundbreaking work is still recognized today by non-governmental organizations as a solid foundation for the mandate.

In 2006 she was part of the UN international commission on the situation in Darfur . In 2009 she was a member of the UN commission of inquiry into the Gaza conflict (see also: Goldstone report ).

She is also the patron of the International Student Week in Ilmenau 2009.

She has been a member of the jury of the Nuremberg International Human Rights Award since 2012 .
