List of renaming of Hindenburgplatz
The name Hindenburgplatz or Paul-von-Hindenburg-Platz was or was borne by numerous squares in German or formerly German places, as well as, derived from this, also public transport stops. The namesake was usually Paul von Hindenburg . Due to its role in German history, which was later viewed as problematic, several of these places were renamed over time, most recently on August 14, 2019, the Hindenburgplatz in Lübeck.
In the meantime, places have been renamed:
- Berlin, from 1934 to 1958, today March 18th
- Frankfurt am Main, from 1918 to 1945, today at the main train station
- Görlitz, see Postplatz (Görlitz)
- Innsbruck, from 1930 to 1945, then again Claudiaplatz
- Lübeck, from 1933 to 2019, then again at Republikplatz
- Munich, renamed Freedom Square in 1946
- Münster, from 1927 to 2012, today Schlossplatz
- Nuremberg, from 1917 to 1922 and 1933 to 1946, today Rathenauplatz
- Solingen, until August 2010, today Walder market square
- Stuttgart, see Arnulf-Klett-Platz
- Euskirchen, December 17, 1992, unanimous council resolution to rename it "Dr.-Hugo-Oster-Platz"
The Hindenburgplatz in Hildesheim and the Hindenburgplatz in Baden-Baden, however, still bear their names.
Also in Bergisch Gladbach there is still a Hindenburgplatz in the Bensberg district .
