Hinduism in the Netherlands

Hindus living in the Netherlands are estimated at up to 250,000 people, many of them refugees and asylum seekers without Dutch citizenship .

The Hindu Council gives a number of 215,000 people.

Approximately 95,000 Hindus have Dutch citizenship. About 85 percent of these citizens come from Suriname and about 10 percent from India . A smaller group comes from Uganda .

According to the 1971 census, 80 percent of the 110,000 immigrants from Suriname with citizenship were Hindus, or 88,000.

The Hindus of the Netherlands have their own TV and radio stations, the Hindoe Media organization .

Beliefs

The Hindus from Suriname are divided into two main faiths , namely Sanâtan Dharam and Vaidik Dharma ( Arya Samâj ). There are also smaller groups such as Kabirpantha, Gâyatri Parivâ.

According to Hindurat, about 80% of the Hindus from Suriname belong to the Sanâtan Dharam direction , 65% of them from the Djanamvadic direction and 35% from the Karamvadic direction, and 20% from the Arya Samâj direction.

A smaller number of Hindus are associated with new religious movements such as ISKCON , Sathya Sai Baba etc.
