Behind St. Petri was a street in Lübeck's old town .

location

The approximately 70 meter long street was in the western part of the old town island, in the Marien Quartier . It began at the meeting of Großer Petersgrube and Schmiedestrasse at the Petrikirche . The street ran right along the choir of the church, tracing the curvature of the building. Shortly after the confluence of the Petrikirchhof coming from the west , the street ended at the intersection with Kohlmarkt , Holstenstraße and Schüsselbuden .

history

The street 1312 is mentioned for the first time under the Latin name Versus chorum S. Petri (To the choir of St. Petri). 1334 the name is Apud sanctum Petrum ( near St. Petri). Deviating from this, in 1423 Parva platea fabrorum (Kleine Schmiedestrasse) and in 1456 the Low German name Kleyne Smedestrate is in use, while for 1449 the Core Petri (behind the Petri choir) is occupied. In 1608 the name is By St. Peter . In 1852, Hinter St. Petri was officially set as the street name.

On November 6, 1933, the square was behind St. Peter in Hans Lody Square renamed. Quay inspector Plöger, captain lieutenant a. D. and his friend Lodys gave the speech and broke ground.

In the bombing of March 29, 1942 , the historic buildings were completely destroyed; only the Petrikirche remained badly damaged. During the reconstruction in the 1950s , the street Hinter St. Petri was closed. The extended Schmiedestrasse now runs in its place, which, unlike its predecessor, no longer has curved lines oriented towards the choir of the Petrikirche, but has been straightened and significantly widened.
