sneaky

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The word hinterfotzig comes from the Austrian and southern German colloquial language and has found its way into the German-speaking world. It is synonymous with "sneaky" or "sneaky" and literally means "behind the mouth". Hinterfotzig is not derived from the sexual meaning of the word cunt (vulgar for " vulva ", " vagina "), but on the Fotz , a common in Bavaria and Austria word for "mouth" or face. If a person is described as sneaky, it means that they are not honest with others, but talk badly behind their backs, blaspheme and intrigue .

In central and northern Germany in particular, the adjective is rather rare in common usage and is often incorrectly interpreted not as "Bavarian or Swabian coarse", but as vulgar or even as an insult. So there was B. in October 2018 in Bochum a case in which a person due to use u. a. of the said word was sued by the latter behind the back of her former employer. The lawsuit received a relatively large amount of media attention, but was ultimately dismissed by the local court.

In part, the term cunning is also used as a synonym for “ mean ” or as a general insult or discrediting , possibly due to folk etymology due to the association with the expression cunt , which is used as a crude swear word .
