Hippo Iceland (of English hippo , hippo ' ) is a steep and rocky island off the coast of the East Antarctic Queen Marie-country . It rises from the Shackleton Ice Shelf 2.5 km north of Delay Point .

The team from the west base in the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson discovered and named them. It is named after its shape, which is reminiscent of a hippo .
