Moscow Hippodrome
The Moscow Hippodrome was founded in 1834 in the north of the Russian capital Moscow and is the largest horse racing track in Russia . There is also a research facility for horse breeding on the site .
history
In 1834 the first trotting races were held in the Moscow Hippodrome. In the first year there were only two racing days. In the late 1880s, the circuit was expanded for hunting races .
After the Russian Revolution , the racetrack was closed in 1918. In September 1921, harness racing and betting were resumed in Moscow. In 1921 163 horses took part in the races again, this number increased in the following years. In 1930 there were already 1030 horses that started on 101 racing days. The buildings were renovated between 1951 and 1955.
After it had been closed for three years, the betting desks at the Moscow Hippodrome reopened on July 1, 2012.
