Hirohide Hamashima

Hirohide Hamashima ( Japanese 浜 島 裕 英 , Hamashima Hirohide ; * 1952 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese tire technician and the former head of the tire department of the Formula 1 racing team Ferrari .

Career

Hirohide Hamashima studied chemistry at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in the 1970s . In 1977 he started working for the Japanese tire manufacturer Bridgestone . From 1981 he worked in the racing department and was involved in many of the company's tire programs in motorsport. When Bridgestone entered Formula 1 in 1997, Hamashima became the main tire engineer responsible.

In Japan he became popular as a television commentator who informed the audience about tire and track problems before each race. After Bridgestone withdrew, he was hired by Ferrari in 2012 to analyze the Pirelli tires that were now in use and to better manage their use.
