Hiroshima Tōyō Carp
The Hiroshima Tōyō Carp ( Japanese 広 島 東洋 カ ー プ , hiroshima tōyō kaapu ) are a Japanese professional baseball team. They play in the Central League , which they have won nine times so far. They have also won the Nihon Series three times so far. (As of May 2019) The Carp's home is Hiroshima , and they play their home games at the Mazda Stadium .
history
The team was founded in 1949.
For the first twenty years of its existence, it was funded by Hiroshima city residents. The team is considered to be the only “urban” professional baseball team in Japan.
On August 6, 2003, the asteroid (44711) Carp, discovered in 1999, was named after the team.
