Hirsuties papillaris penis , exact Hirsuties papillaris coronae glandis (from Latin hirsutus "rough", papilla "wart", Corona glandis "glans crown") are a series of whitish, skin-colored or reddish wart-like formations that appear on the glans edge up to the foreskin frenulum of the penis People . In German they are sometimes referred to as "Hornzipfel" or "Hornzipfelchen". Further synonyms are papillae coronae glandis , papillomata coronae glandis or penile papillomas . It is not, as is often believed, a warts , a malformation , a sexually transmitted disease , a symptom of another disease or a condition that would be caused by poor hygiene , but rather a harmless atavism with no disease value . They are therefore not contagious.

The hirsuties papillaris penis arise during puberty and can occur in up to 40% of men. In Germany , these horn tips are more or less pronounced in around 10 to 20 percent of men. Similar changes can very rarely occur as hirsuties papillaris vulvae in the area of the female vulva .

Differential diagnosis

Due to the typical appearance, confusion with the harmless Fordyce glands (as heterotopic free sebum glands , sebum cysts ) or the contagious genital warts is hardly possible. If in doubt, a dermatologist should be consulted. A possible risk of confusion could be with mollusca contagiosa (mostly sporadic changes on the penis shaft with a central indentation) and changes in the lichen planus , bowenoid papules and condylomata lata (syphilis) .

distance

There is no medical need for the removal, accordingly the costs of such are not covered by the health insurance companies. Usually the patient can be reassured by referring to the harmlessness and widespread use of this change.

The horn tips could only be removed by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for cosmetic reasons by laser treatment or cryotherapy under local anesthesia , whereby the previous explanation must include information about the possible unwanted and then really annoying scarring . Overall, if the person seeking advice is properly informed, it is likely to be carried out only extremely rarely.
