Historia master

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A draftsman and painter who worked in Lower Austria at the beginning of the 16th century is named as Historia Master or Master of Historia Friderici et Maximiliani . The artist, who is not known by name, got his emergency name from his illustrations for the life story ( lat. Historia) Friedrich III. and his son Maximilian I , a manuscript that Joseph Grünpeck wrote for Emperor Maximilian around 1507/08 (not until 1514/15, as is often claimed).

style

The master of the Historia Friderici et Maximiliani is stylistically reckoned with the Danube School . Since his graphic handwriting is very close to that of Albrecht Altdorfer , he was regarded as his pupil. The illustrations in the Historia Friderici et Maximiliani are often viewed as a work by Altdorfer himself.

identification

In addition to being identified with Albrecht Altdorfer, the Historia Master is sometimes identified with Niclas Breu from Krems. These assignments, like the proposed equation with the master of the Pulkau Altar, are not certain and are sometimes controversial.
