History fountain
The so-called history fountain is a spiral-shaped bronze fountain and is a work of art and a sight in the pedestrian zone of the district town of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
History and architecture
The spiral fountain made of bronze is at the Georgskapelle . It was created by the sculptor Bonifatius Stirnberg from Aachen and erected in 1983 in connection with the creation of the pedestrian zone .
In him, Stirnberg combined modern art and local history. In the cheeks of the spiral-shaped object, 27 motifs from Bergheim's story are cast, which - from bottom to top - follow a chronology of time. It begins with the lignite forest of the Tertiary and ends with the current coal utilization in the Niederaussem power plant . The historical events taken up by Bonifatius Stirnberg include the stays of Albrecht Dürer and Emperor Charles V in Bergheim.
