The historic hairdressing salon in Altenburg, Thuringia, at Pauritzer Straße 2 is a hairdressing shop that has been preserved in the state of the 1920s. It is of particular importance in terms of monument preservation and urban history.

History of the building

The property was built on for the first time in 1537. An inspection by the State Office for Monument Preservation dates the building to the 16th and 17th centuries. In the 18th or 19th century, the building was increased, presumably using the old roof structure again. The facade facing the street is baroque. On the first floor of the building there is a plank room that was probably built in later .

History of the hair salon

In 1926 the hairdresser Arthur Grosse bought the house and set up a barber shop with a women's and men's salon connected to each other by a door. You enter the shop on the left, next to it there is a shop window. Arthur Grosse announced his business in 1966 and closed the shop, which then outlasted time in a more than 35-year "slumber". In 2001 the last owner of the building died, after which the heirs wanted to sell it and remove the inventory. The lower monument protection authority of the city then informed the hairdressing guild of the Altenburger Land , which secured its whereabouts. The property was purchased on March 7, 2002 and has been renovated since 2003.
