A hair clipper , including hair trimmer or Tondeuse , in use on animal clipper called, is a device for cutting hair .

It consists of the actual cutting tools and a manual or electric drive.

construction

Two comb-like knives are used as cutting tools , of which the lower one, facing the skin, is stationary, while the upper one is moved back and forth against it. The lower knife has rounded tine tips and is moved a little forwards compared to the upper one in order to avoid damaging the skin. With some devices, this offset can be varied during operation using a lever on the side. With this step-adjustable length adjustment, variations of the cutting distance of 1/20 mm, 1/10 mm and 1 and 3 mm are usually possible. Additionally attached or adjustable spacer combs, also known as attachment combs, allow the remaining hair length to be precisely maintained. The minimum length of the remaining hair is determined by the thickness of the lower knife. Usually these combs are made of plastic, which makes them very light. Such a plug-on comb can be attached to a hair clipper by placing it on the blade device of the apparatus and locking it. The standard cutting setting of a few millimeters can be varied as required in this way. The pitch of the knife combs is slightly different, so that not all cutting edges come into contact at the same time.

It is driven either by a pliers-like hand lever, an electric motor with an eccentric or a vibrating armature drive . The drive can be part of the hand-held device (also together with the power supply) or, in the case of powerful devices, it can be via articulated or flexible shafts . It is also possible for several hand-held devices to be driven by one power source by means of transmission devices.
